At CavalTeatro is the artistic and theatrical atelier that I founded with a group of female friends (*) in 1982. We put on shows, we think, we create. Children, teenagers, teachers, actors, onlookers, janitors, councilors, a cat have passed through. Even a carabiniere (police officer) one time. By the by, we have Pinocchio at CavalTeatro too. There is also a house in a wood, a mother tree, Smeraldina which is an aquatic city, a double invented by Calvino. There is Philippe's red head crossing the world on a tightrope, there are two giants sitting at a table. There is a mother waiting for her child, making coffee in the meantime. There is a house of cards, threads pointed heavenwards, a Queen of Hearts, Pezzettino, a river at the confluence, several umbrellas, the litromassage, the opposite of day, the opposite of night. How to make Monday bloom? Drawing roses Monday Rose It is May, the ideal month. Just take a notebook and a few pencils to end the day in an unusual, pleasant and regenerating way: drawing roses and flowers, together, in the evening, in the open air. What do we do I will open each meeting drawing roses and other flowers with different techniques. Then everyone will free their hands on the paper, interpreting the beauty of the flowers as they want, observing and copying even just a petal or a shadow, filling the page with a color or drawing the entire rose garden or a meadow, including the insects, the leaves and the sky. It is about learning to observe in order to sketch on paper what you see, connecting hands and eyes with a line that passes more from the soul than from the brain. What we need A sketchbook of the preferred size but not very large: about 20x15. A Tiger sketchbook is fine, but if you have a notebook at home, an old diary, a Moleskine, a started and never finished notebook, they are just as fine, as long as they have a hard enough cover to act as a support. You can work on blank or lined, squared or numbered calendar sheets; everything is useful to generate ideas. A pencil. Or colored pencils, crayons, dry crayons (chalks) or watercolors if you prefer. If you want you can use ballpoint pens, colored or not. In short, look in the drawers and take out even the forgotten butts. There are no limitations; the only warning is not to overdo it in loading materials because we have to work in particular conditions and we will not have support surfaces if not our legs. If you can, get a foldable and lightweight stool as well. I will bring watercolors, a roll of kitchen paper and brushes with enough water tanks, so who wants to draw watercolor sketches can do it without any further concern. Calendar Three meetings of two hours each, independent of each other: you can sign up for one, two or all. Each meeting will take place starting from a minimum of four participants. (*) Times may vary slightly depending on the opening of the parks IMPORTANT: The meetings will all take place outdoors in public or private parks in the Turin area and in case of rain they will be rescheduled for other dates as far as possible. Butterfly's Kimono back Cho-Cho-San has always touched me. Poor trapped girl. Every time I listen to Madame Butterfly, moving me, I would gladly save her from her fate. So I imagined a new dress for her, a kimono that gives her back life and spring. A dress made of flowers, water and aquatic plants, fish and butterflies. Something to wear that magically relieves her of her tragedy away from Pinkerton and all the other knives. Here is the inspiration for the watercolor lessons that I propose to you, dedicated to the traditional spring motifs of Japanese art for the kimonos' decorations. We take the starting point from Tsuguharu Foujita, the artist who created some of more wonderful costumes for the Madame Butterfly, and also look at the contemporary artists.
