WHAT COLOUR IS THE AUNT? What about the grandfather? And the last born? And me, what color am I? Have you ever thought of your family as a colorful constellation? Each person in our family could gives off an iridescent color because of their character, thoughts, outbursts, emotions, the way they talk, the way they smell, the way they laugh or cough, the dreams they have. In this workshop we will draw the members of our family as a small shape or even just a dot; just join the dots with lines and fill in the spaces with every possible shade to have a fantastic map of one's family. An abstract and colorful composition in which faces and bodies fade away merging into the color of feelings, moods, thoughts and desires. What color is aunt? is about our relationships and their physical, mental and sentimental space. It is part of the series of philosophical-artistic workshops, so called because they center on themes of our every day lives and at the same time those same themes are the topics on which humankind has been reasoning since time immemorial. At CavalTeatro is the artistic and theatrical atelier that I founded with a group of female friends (*) in 1982. We put on shows, we think, we create. Children, teenagers, teachers, actors, onlookers, janitors, councilors, a cat have passed through. Even a carabiniere (police officer) one time. By the by, we have Pinocchio at CavalTeatro too. There is also a house in a wood, a mother tree, Smeraldina which is an aquatic city, a double invented by Calvino. There is Philippe's red head crossing the world on a tightrope, there are two giants sitting at a table. There is a mother waiting for her child, making coffee in the meantime. There is a house of cards, threads pointed heavenwards, a Queen of Hearts, Pezzettino, a river at the confluence, several umbrellas, the litromassage, the opposite of day, the opposite of night. There is Saladin who has big eyes at night, darkness, a candle, shadows. There is Thelady who never speaks, sits large on the world and looks on. A CavalTeatro is in via Bardonecchia in Turin. Breve bio di Carla Massimetti. La mia vita artistica. La mia vita. ABOUT In the kindergarten, at the age of three or four, I drew a horse standing upright on its hind legs. My schoolmates teased me because I had sketched it balanced on the tips of its hooves. They said it was impossible for it to stand up straight like this. I, on the other hand, was happy with that impossible horse and never corrected it. I was born in 1956 in Chieti, Abruzzo. Two years later my family moved to Turin, I have lived here ever since. In 1982, with some close colleagues, I founded A Caval Teatro, a research and experimentation theatre group for the Educational Services of the Municipality. Thanks to the high quality of the projects carried out, the laboratory soon became an educational and theatrical training point in Turin and beyond. Artistically, I trained with Maestro Giacomo Soffiantino, following his nude and etching lessons for three years. I am getting my permanent training with the Maestri of the Illustration School of Sarmede, the Painting School of the Pinacoteca of the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts in Turin, the Master printer Giancarlo Busato, the Print Club of Turin, the artist Paolo Galetto. I exhibited drawings and watercolors in collective exhibitions in Turin, Milan and Adelfia (BA) at galleries, cultural clubs, bookstores. I won second prize with “Neve” in the Watercolor section in the International Competition of Painting, Drawing, Graphics and Watercolor Metropoli di Torino, VI edition, Year 2016, organized by Arte Città Amica. My “Inverni” soft-ground etching was selected for the 2020 Biennale catalogue Diego Donati Award, Perugia.
